Ketogenic Week 1 Review

Who would have guessed that eating fat to lose fat would actually be successful?! I know the idea makes ZERO sense and you are probably thinking "Lauren, you are a health and fitness coach who promotes clean eating. Why the hell are you eating all this fat?" I still promote clean eating and will tell you that this past week I have eaten cleaner than I typically do.

The GOOD and the UGLY
The GOOD- Everything has been DELICIOUS!!! When I first talked about this diet with my boyfriend Kurt,  I said "babe, I'm gonna try this to train for my physique competition.Iit goes against everything I have ever discussed and practiced but I have a major goal." Pretty sure he was skeptic but he said "I'll do this with you".

So off to the grocery store in which we loaded our cart with lots and lots of butter, a mega gallon of EVOO, cheese, sausage, beef, bacon, chicken and EGGS! Oh let's also point out that heavy whipping cream and half n' half are 100% approved! $150 later and a spice cabinet my house has no room for, I prepped as much as I could for the week.

So What Did We Eat?

Breakfasts- alternated between Cheese and Bacon Frittata (check out the recipe) and Cheesy Scrambled eggs! Look at that awesome frittata! You CANNOT go wrong with egg, bacon, and cheese!!! The meals progressively got more and more delicious! Bring on the fat became our motto. Kurt immediately was loving this diet!
Lunches- mostly leftovers from the dinner the night before along with several cups of spinach and at least 2 tbs of EVOO

Dinners- very high calorie with the following proteins beef, chicken and sausage. Our favorite was the Chicken and Bacon Sausage Stir Fry... shit was AMAZING and with only 541 calories, my mouth watered and I felt skeptical that this was actually going to work (but you bet I ate every BITE).

So weigh in on Day 0 was 131 lbs for me, 186 lbs for Kurt. Throughout the week, we each saw changes in the other but it wasn't until we stepped on the scale Day 7 that we had PROOF! I was down 6 lbs and Kurt was down 11 lbs!!! Holy CRAP was all we could think! DISCLAIMER: a lot of the weight lost was water weight but I know I was drinking my face off. I felt like a fish out of water!

The UGLY- Now most diets talk about "side effect" or what to expect. I read this very thoroughly and I will say the UGLY I experienced was NOT noted anywhere in my book! First of all I have reverted back to my pimply adolescent years! I blame it on the fact that I ate as sloppily as possible and got EVOO, bacon grease and butter all over my face. There simply is no other explanation. My energy levels didn't really change, Kurt on the other hand got his ass handed to him. He basically was so tired that even coffee couldn't revive him. Ketosis=comatose for Kurt (I really hope week 2 is better for him). WARNING- if you are not a fan of spicy food, than many of the recipes I found for week 1 would NOT be for you! If you have sensitivity to heat be prepared to have LOTS of bathroom reading material.

Bottom Line- Not too bad... I really do miss my carbs and beside the sweet I get from Shakeology I haven't had any chocolate or candy (this is hard for me). I'm praying that the breakouts diminish but I'm loving having bacon practically everyday!

On to Week 2!

Just had to make a video about it
